As a writer, you want to promote your work. Radio, television and teleclass interviews are a powerful way for people to get to know you, for you to build credibility and a great way to give your readers information that they can use right away! The more you give them, the more you build intrigue and credibility...and ultimately, the more books and services you will sell.
A strong platform should have seven parts. You can take charge of an interview and assist your interviewer by sending a list of questions ahead of time to help them create a strong, compelling interview. Most interviewers welcome your questions.
I have listed below the Seven Key Elements of a Strong Platform:
1. Always start with your story. Who are you? Why are you the expert? What experiences in your life inspired you to share your message?
Keep this part tight. 2-4 minutes is good. You don't want to focus too much on yourself but you DO want to give your listeners enough to trust what you have to say.
2. State your intention for your book. Make sure that it is service oriented. What do you hope readers will learn from your book? How can your book help them?
3. What is the core message of your book and how can people benefit from it. Make this part very tangible.
For example, you might want to include something like:
3 Key Steps to Discovering Your Authentic Self
What you can do to live a life with No Regrets
Identifying and Healing Postpartum Depression
How to take charge of your own Personal Growth and Evolution.
5 Things to help you Unleash Your Brilliance
Root these elements in stories about you or your clients if relevant.
4. Make your message big and inspiring. Why is your book important for the World?
5. Make sure you tell people how they can buy your book...Is it on Amazon? Barnes and Noble? Your website?
6. What resources to you have including freebies for new readers and upcoming programs? Where can people learn more about you and your services?
7. Give people your contact information
Always send hosts your headshot, front image of your book, your website URL, your email address and your phone number and your list of questions.
Always ask your host for a recording of the show if it is available. Include it on your website, facebook page, etc.
If you aren't sure it's being recorded, you can always record it yourself using Audio Acrobat.
AND....most importantly....HAVE FUN! This is the reason you do what you do! Enjoy the spotlight!!
Love,
Karen
